Zero Conditional
cause and effect, zero drama
el condicional cero
In this unit
The zero conditional describes things that are always true: if this happens, that always follows. Both parts use the present tense ('If you heat ice, it melts'). There's no will and no would here. You can even swap 'if' for 'when' without changing the meaning. In this unit you'll practise writing these general truths.
Las dos partes van en presente ('If you heat ice, it melts'). Aquí no hay will ni would. Incluso puedes cambiar 'if' por 'when' sin cambiar el significado. Aquí practicarás estas verdades generales.

The story of English · la historia
The zero conditional is the simplest 'if': two present tenses, nothing added ('if you heat ice, it melts'). Here is why it's so bare: it describes something always true, which has no particular time — so there is nothing for a future or a special form to do. Spanish does exactly the same ('si calientas hielo, se derrite'), so this one is easy.
